Skip on over to the Qajaq USA forum and do some archive searching. It's been discussed a lot. Look in particular for posts by Roy Martin, who builds 4-piece GPs in wood and carbon fiber. You may also want to look for posts on transporting paddles. Whenever you see a kayak on a roof rack with a piece of PVC next to it it's a good bet that there are GPs in the tubing. Someone posted about using a vinyl fence post. The ends are pointy and more aerodynamic, and since it's square you can fit more paddles for the same length. If you're paddling a SOF with no bulkheads you can just slip your paddles in the kayak. If you're not- maybe you should make a new kayak to keep your paddles in!
