Ric,
Thanks for sharing your experience. This is valuable if disappointing information.
I may be putting a lot of effort into into partial solution.
An electric pump may currently be the best solution. (with a stick pump as a back up). If one paddles a lot in the surf zone an electric pump is clearly the
best solution.
What is absolutely clear to me:
1. stick pumps-must be used by hands that won't be able to paddle, not enough volume, plenty of pressure--that's of no use, raises the water a lot higher than necessary. (effort is wasted)
2. Pumping out a kayak cockpit should be quick, hands free, reliable.
3. pumping out a kayak is really a very simple problem--the water doesn't have to be moved very far, doesn't need to be raised very high.
--2 inches of water in the cockpit needs to be raised no more than about 6 inches, 12 inches to pump it out of the top deck.
The Guzzler is heavy, has it's connections awkwardly placed. One solution I've figured out is that the 'button' one pushes against is easier if a lever is hinged to actuate it.
This way one's foot doesn't have to hit the button, leverage is gained (it is a lot easier to push the lever)
Incorporating the Guzzler in the footrest places it always in the same place. (attaching it to the bulkhead would it make it in the wrong place for everyone)

: My experience with a foot operated Guzzler pump goes beyond the
: concept stage. When I flip my Guillemot back up after a dump it
: does not have a lot of water in it, 2" at most. Then I get
: back in and start pumping. And I pump and I pump and I pump.
: It's true I can keep the boat stable because my arms aren't busy
: pumping but it takes a very long time. As Malcom says it is not
: something youo want to be doing in a hazardous area. If there is
: a lot of water my legs can even need a rest before the job is
: done. I don't think the Guzzler has enough capacity/stroke. Just
: my opinion.
: Ric
: Pumping out is best understood if you've just been out practicing
