Btw, I've had much more luck doweling those support blocks as well as epoxing them in place. There's considerable load on the coaming getting into and out of the boat.
The coaming gets much stronger btw as the spacer ring and top ring of ply are added. Goes from 1/2" ply to 1 1/2".
