Thanks very much for the loaner offers, but I'm going to continue my quest to find a bargain.
A bit off topic. I read a kayaking article about keeping a straight track, and the main recommendation was to use a high angle paddle.
Tired of weaving around, I bought one and the change was absolutely remarkable. I now go straighter and faster. without a bunch of correcting strokes. No revelation to the old hands here, but worth mentioning.
