: 1/4" strips don't add 1/4" to the length at the end of

: The amount they add depends on the angle at which they meet. On a
: kayak with a very blunt end, they might add 1/2" and on a
: kayak with a very fine bow and stern, they could easily add a
: couple of inches at each end.

: Stop worrying. You don't need any shims or adjustment. The angle of
: the bow and stern on a Great Auk should mean that the strips add
: all the bit that you think is missing.

OK; Thanks. As I mentioned; I'm brand new to this and everything I've read up to this point says to be very careful and exact in setup to avoid problems down the road. Maybe I'm reading too much into it. I took off the shims and we'll just get started.
