: Unfortunately in the wood world, cedar is primarily used for house
: trim or siding and they come up with standards that allow them
: to make the most money possible.
: The Lumber Co. in my home town in CT does get real 3/4 planed on
: both sides. How much did you pay for it (board ft) etc. Since
: you had it shipped and all the hassle, I would go with it and
: just belt sand the rough side a bit smoother (not perfect) so it
: makes your planing job a little easier. I have used wood like
: that and that's what I did. You can always ask the lumber co.
: why it came that way and see what they say? Normally 3/4 wood is
: called 1" pine etc. assuming for the loss of planing.
Thanks for all the responses everyone. I feel a lot better about it now. I had figured that the rolling bevel should take care of it; but I had no practical experience to tell me it would. I wanted to try it out, but that meant ripping the wood, etc which makes it pretty hard to return. I paid $3.10 per lineal foot for 1 x 6 clear S4S. What I got was S3S and 5/8 inch thick rather than the 3/4 I was expecting. I think I'll let the lumber yard know I didn't get what I ordered, but will use the wood. I really don't want to go back through a re-order, and I don't even know that I could actually get S4S in a full 3/4 thick. I have a feeling that was just the local lumber yard guy telling me that without actually verifying with their supplier. Oh well; not a big deal I guess and I'll just move on. Thanks again for all the replies. When you're brand new to something and you get a bunch of responses all basically saying the same thing, it sure does instill confidence in your decision. I really appreciate that.
