Considering the weight difference to cedar, you can always use it for the hull and do the deck in cedar or the other way. I met a woman who built and Outer Island out of mahogany and it was not heavy. I didn't weigh it but it was in that 40+ lb category. Most of the weight gets accumulated with the epoxy, glass and hatch and coaming details. Everyone loves cedar but I am once again going to do some repair work on my strip cedar hull. Cedar may be light and it ends up strong as far as structure, but it can bruise easily. And once that soft core takes a bang, you can get a white spot or more as the glass gets fractured. So cedar is not this fantastic panacea that we often think it is.
