: Unfortunately in the wood world, cedar is primarily used for house
: trim or siding and they come up with standards that allow them
: to make the most money possible.

: The Lumber Co. in my home town in CT does get real 3/4 planed on
: both sides. How much did you pay for it (board ft) etc. Since
: you had it shipped and all the hassle, I would go with it and
: just belt sand the rough side a bit smoother (not perfect) so it
: makes your planing job a little easier. I have used wood like
: that and that's what I did. You can always ask the lumber co.
: why it came that way and see what they say? Normally 3/4 wood is
: called 1" pine etc. assuming for the loss of planing.

Around here at least most cedar is used for decks and fences, so it's pretty crappy. I once bought a huge pile of 16' cedar and had to toss probably 3/4 of it because of all the knots. Anymore I'll travel to a place that I can sort thru the wood myself and pick the boards I want.
