I think you were the one who mentioned MDO before... and your reasoning convinced me. It might be a little heavier, too... but I can't see it making a significant difference. Those formers aren't big to begin with.

As for beauty... if we want beauty, strip would be the way to go. Those boats are just gorgeous. I've seen a few pics of S&G's that weren't bad, either. Unless you're using clear PVC, it's not like you can see the color/pattern of the formers anyway, right? Just a translucent blob of "hey, there's wood behind that fabric." If someone wants to stick their head through the coaming and complain that the formers aren't pretty... they're in a perfect position for my foot to be planted somewhere improper ;o).

A little off topic, but I've heard MDO comes in two flavors... one side covered, and both covered. Does the splintering (or lack thereof) differ between the two?
