Hi Reg,

As you well know there are lots of advantages to having a skeg closer to the cockpit one big one is the skeg isn't likely to come out of the water on the top of a wave, where a stern mounted one sometimes will on which can be bad. But the physics are simple, a longer moment arm means the skeg can be smaller for the same amount of force and a smaller skeg/slot will have less drag. I did not say this is better, just has the potential of less drag.

I don't like skegs or rudders if I can help it, so am not going built a test boat to try something I don't like to start with, specially since I don't do this for profit.

4000 mark, someone has to lead, might as well be me :)
