It did fit well, but I still used clamps when it came to gluing the shaped lip to the riser.

When laminating the strips, each layer was clamped one after the other (see pic). As I glued layers the lip became more rigid and 'used' to the shape it was being forced to adopt. After gluing seven layers I left it for a few days to harden and then took it off to shape. Once shaped I pasted some epoxy on the lip and riser and clamped it in place. Lastly, I flipped the boat over and ran some roving around the base of the lip with some thickened epoxy to try to form a fillet on the underside.

This photo shows the first couple of strips laminated on. I used the same number of clamps when gluing to the riser as well. It was pretty easy to sneak some long strands of glass under the clamps right around the lip/riser joint.
