: area have raw sewage dumped into them from the many shanty
: ghettos along them. And, there are parasites there that will
: make you wish you were dead (I even brushed my teeth with Sprite
: once when I was out of bottled water). So be very careful about
: not ingesting any water (NOT a good place to bang out rolls!),
: and clean yourself up before you eat or drink anything. Oh, and
: if there are no locals in a body of water, there is probably a
: really good (crocodiles) reason.

It looks like Ilhabela will be the place. I have never had a guide before but where I am going solo in an area I have never been before and carrying nice camera equipment I decided it was a good investment. This place looks like a good group to go with. Their rates are reasonable but still a lot more than I am used to spending for a kayak trip.
