Adirondack Guide Boats are made with ribs first with the skin attached to them, as are many canoes. There is one problem in doing this with kayaks though, and that is that you wouldn't be able to clean or do maintanence very well, being as how they are closed decks. With SoF stuff washes under the ribs or you just pull the skin. Can't do that on a stripper kayak.
