: I used Kilz as a base coat to seal the fabric. It's cheap and goes
: on easy. I then sprayed the top side of the boat with latex. The
: bottom (white) is enamel. The latex is ok considering the price
: and ease of cleanup; but, it's not enamel. My impression after a
: hundred miles or so of paddling is it's not as tough as enamel
: and maybe that's because it's not cured. I wasn't aware it took
: that long. I top coated mine with water based poly clear because
: the latex is a satin finish and I wanted it to be glossy. I will
: probably use latex again because of the price difference.

Hi Barry,
I got a good chance to see your kayak at the Phat Water and the paint looks great! I like the shine the gloss coat added.
Actually yours and the baidarka Kudzu designed and built both looked great.
It was great to meet you and see 2 of the kayaks I have been reading about here.
