If you're concerned about dust and you're machine sanding, you can also make the switch to Mirka Abranet abrasive mesh sanding discs. The do not last as long as paper, but the make my sander w/shop vac using Gore Cleanstream filter almost 100% dust free.

My original post was not just that WRC is linked to asthma, but that all wood dust is now classified as a carcinogen by OSHA. Hand planes don't make dust, so the more you can use them the better.
