OK so I finished up my first pair of hatch flanges (I really don't know what to call the glassed channel, so flange it is).

I might do them again (how nice to be doing a job on the boat that can easily be done again if you screw up). They came out ok, but I wasn't careful enough to avoid air bubbles, so some of the channel has air bubbles along it.

They also weighed in around 250g each (half a pound), after trimming. Which seems a bit overkill to me. I laid on about 7 layers of 6oz cloth per Vaclav's instructions and they certainly are extremely strong. I haven't got any carbon fibre and for reasons of finance I'd prefer to use up some of the huge quantity of scrap fibreglass I have built up.

What sort of weight is reasonable using fibreglass? Reckon I'd be ok with say 5 layers of cloth? I think with that and more prudent use of resin maybe I could get them down to 150-200g each? (roughly 6-8oz)
