I think I understand you to believe that after cutting out the end form to the pattern outline, I further trimmed off material from the pattern and replaced it with the internal stem material. Actually, I trimmed off none of the area represented by the internal stem. I cut the end form per the pattern outline. I then attached the internal stem using a couple of hot melt glue dots to hold the internal stem to the pattern.

It sure seems that the strip would lay in a more "fair" curve if I did cut the pattern and move the internal stem toward the center of the boat (toward the camera). If you look at the photo (a shot down the length of the kayak toward the rear internal stem), you can see that the staple is pulled out by about 3/8 inch in the last form (form 16). If the internal stem was moved toward the camera (by cutting out some end form material), the strip would have more of curve and a more "fair" shape. Right now it has a "flatter" curve.
