I don't get it. Why do you need the appearance of wood? I say use whatever method works best to achieve whatever goal you're after. Strip-building boats works most efficiently for making hulls, decks, etc., and that's the primary reason why we build strippers in the first place ..... the cool appearance is basically a happy by product of the process.

In my recent OI build I considered the requirement for a fore bulkhead to be a watertight membrane only, and used glass matting, or whatever the stuff is called, and epoxy and that's it to save weight. For the aft bulkhead I wanted strength, so I strip-built it.

I think it looks cooler than wood, too......... :-)
