: for strip building? I own a 12" Ryobi and have never run a
: strip through it. I use it to level wood for other uses but mine
: sits idle for more than a year at a time. You can set up a table
: saw to cut paper thin strips with a little patience. I do think
: Rob is right about using strips all equal thickness but every
: boat I built has some left over strips and the thickness did
: vary. It took me nothing to level it out with a plane.
The only reason I have a thickness planer is that I often purchase rough lumber and the boards usually vary quite a bit in thickness. The planer does a great quick job (though very loud and dusty) of bringing all the boards to the same thickness with smooth faces.
