In addition to what Rob said, I find that supporting strip edges between stations is important. It is easy for strips to slide out of alignment between stations so I use extra spring clamps, clothes pegs, tape, and anything else that will work between stations, a la the picture below.

I have to confess that my strips are not always perfectly equal in thickness along their full length. I don't worry too much; I fudge the odd thin point that comes up from time to time by slipping a bit of post card or some-such in between the strip and the form (and indeed the lower jaw of a spring clamp if necessary) to bring the outer surfaces into alignment. Outside is more crucial than inside.
