In Response To: Strip: Question from Building Strip Planked Boats (Stephen Troy)
: Continuing on this potentially knucklheaded plan of dying a strip
: kayak but wanting accents undyed, I came across something in
: Nick's book that was curious. On the Petrel section he describes
: dying straight over an accent stripe, then scraping the dyed
: wood off with a modified utility knife.
: My understanding was that as soon as you fiberglassed or seal
: coated, the epoxy would wet the dye and it would bleed over your
: accent line again.
: What am I missing?
Nick has done it, and it turned out good. I would use the same type of dye he used and do a test piece. The solor lux he used can be ordered from Grizzly imports.
