I've got to get my pix working again sometime, but I've got a way to do the tips without having to reach all the way to the ends, also usually have a bigger front hatch than 6" :)

I use a loop of line from the next aft mounting points and bungie that to the bow toggle, keeps the toggle on the deck and once released (has a fairly large diameter loop around the toggle) the lines are easy to grab having the tension released.
