: I had a garage fire a few years back that I suspect was started by
: an extension cord, even though it - and everything else in the
: garage - was unplugged when I finished working. It simmered away
: for an hour and then all hell broke loose. Just the garage - no
: people or pets were hurt, but a couple of canoes are now
: exploring the river in the sky. My thoughts on extension cords
: cannot be printed here ...
: I think I mentioned elsewhere about using incubator lamps, but
: sensibly used they are nice for safe, spot heating. Also a small
: heat source can be connected to a dimmer switch for adjustable
: heat.
As an electrician and volunteer firefighter, both for longer than I care to remember, I've got a healthy distrust for extension cords. I only use heavy duty ones, and when they show damage, replace. I've got all my tools and power drops on a master lockable switch at my bench both for fire and grandson safety.
