: For the past month or so, I've working on a new kayak design for my
: almost 5 year old daughter. I'm working on four different
: designs and going to let her choose the one she wants. Each one
: is between 11 to 12 feet long, has a waterline length of around
: 10.5 feet and will have a max beam of about 15", designed
: with fairly high stability. They'll be for paddlers from 4-12
: years old and 30 to 75 pounds. I'm designing them as strippers
: but will probably build hers this winter as a fuselage-style
: SOF.
: * Androscoggin 12: Modeled to resemble a modern, high performance
: sea kayak
: * Aziscohos 11: Our kid-size version of a post-1845 Alaskan
: baidarka
: * Connecticut-12 (CT-12 for short): Based on our CT-18 East
: Greenlander (the LC-148 historical specimen was the basis for
: the design)
: * SEA 11: We took our little rough water play boat and re-sized it
: for even smaller paddlers.
: Below is a collage of the four designs (just rough at this stage).
: I need to work on the cockpits. Yes, my daughter wants a pink
: kayak. When I put the final versions on my website I'll use
: other colors. If you're interested in any of them I can offer
: you some free rough plans as my guinea pig!
: Dan
Dan. Like the designs, (not sure about the pink though). I suppose, "Let the wood shine through" might be a little wasted on a 3yr old.
I particularly like the look of the SEA 11 & Andro 12. and would love to see some figures if, as, and when!
From what you say it looks like a 2/3 all round scale down of Nicks Great Auk would get nearer to the size and bouyancy of your designs, giving OAL 11ft 4"
DWL 11ft. Max beam 16", and WL beam 15.1". I must admit, I was surprised at your Max beam of 15" but I am coming at this from nowhere in the knowledge stakes.
(So I might make a reasonable guinea pig!) Regards. Les C.
