Hi George,
Under copyright laws, you would be fully entitled to purchase kayak plans and build a single kayak and give it to your daughter, or anyone else. Most such plans have a second build clause if you pay the extra permit.
Plans are sold as Personal Use Only for the price as a once-off payment, for professional production a different permit is required.
