Got an interesting call today from a local Timber Framer. Seems his boss has gotten involved a local Rowing Club that just started up here my Home Town. They have impressed me honestly. They approached the town with a proposal and to my amazement they got the city to build them a small dock and they are talking about a building for them to store the shells. I suspect they have big plans on drawing races to the city to get that done.

One the Timberwrights is a member and the club had an older shell that was suffering from some neglect and they had it in the shop doing the wood repairs. The bow and stern are skinned with what appears to be Dacron. They called me asking if I could do the fabric work for them. They were totally out of their element there. I went over and check it out and it's a simple job so I agreed to donate my time and skin the boat

I have never looked at a Rowing Shell up close but these things are amazing! There is some serious woodworking in them. This one is a 4 man and I think he said it was 40 foot long!! I measured and it was 21" at the widest point. I would imagine it is somewhere around 17" -18" at the water line. I have paddled over where one of the college teams practices and man those things are fast. Now I see why. It's a toothpick!
