: Cool!
: I've repaired a number of shells for the Boulder Rowing Club - all
: of theirs are fiberglass, though. Port Townsend, WA also has a
: shop building amazing wooden shells, with dacron decks - much
: cooler indeed than glass boats. I assume you will just be
: covering the decks? I've been asked several times to build an
: entirely SOF rowing shell, and it's on my list . . . .
: I agree that they are pretty impressive craft- though I am less
: impressed by only being able to use them at 5 a.m. in dead calm
: waters!
: You can get that superlightweight dacron from
: http://www.aircraftspruce.com/menus/cs/fabric.html or possibly
: still from the late Platt Monfort's wife - gaboats.com
Aircraft Spruce has the best price I've seen. If you go to their website, don't look up the listing for fabric covering supplies or it'll take you to the certified fabric which is expensive. Instead look for the search box and type in "dacron" and the uncertified fabric will pop up, same product but much less money.
Sorry Jeff, the scraps I had that size get tossed and I've not got a fabric process scheduled until spring I think.
