Well here is my winter project.

I am building a strip version of the Tom Yost Nikumi. I have built both Nikumi models that Tom has on his site and enjoy them. So I asked Tom if he could provide offsets every foot and he did provide that for this build, Thanks Tom. After lofting them onto 1/2" ply I then fared the chine points into a smooth rounded station form. I then set the station forms up on a strong back using a string line pulled very tight at the base line elevation and set the forms at the design dimension from the base line.

I then purchased Rob Mack's Manuel for the Fire star and used Rob's method for constructing the baidarka bow and stern shapes. I adapted Rob's method with Tom's station profile and now I am building. Thanks Rob Mack for the instructional Manuel, It is very well worth the low cost and packed with helpful hints and techniques.

I am just about to fill in the last strips on the hull and things are looking good. The hull is much rounder than My Outer Island and the volume is a little more than the OI. That is the shape of a baidarka however. I know my skin version of the Nikumi is fun to roll, I wonder how the rounder strip hull will compare. I will shoot some pictures and post soon.
