: Thayercraft Style 6580 - 5.7oz Has anyone used this glass? I bought
: some to use on the inside of my Petrel and am getting close to
: doing the layup. It is a 72x72 S Glass, verry smooth simular to
: the 6116. I used two layers of 6116 on the outside of the hull,
: and one layer on the deck with good results. My concern is, is
: the smooth textured glass stronger, weaker, or the same? I was
: going with this glass beacuse it is S glass and takes less resin
: to fill the weave. Any thoughts?

Joe,

I believe that this is the same style (BGF 6580) that Ted Henry used sometime back. Search the archives and his web site (http://www.metakrome.com/kayak/index.html). Test samples made with this style produced very good resistance to impact failure (http://www.thag-o-mizer.net/Plywood.html) and lived up to Ted's warnings about difficulty in getting a clear wetout.
