I've used quite a bit of oxalic acid as a wood bleach but only for taking stains out of wood, usually grey color from mahogany. I suspect it'll get the wood very white if left on long enough, never tried it. Comes as crystals you disolve in warm water, get it from the drug store, but you'll have to ask the pharmasist for it.
