I have had these things around for years what works best is to tap a cue ball or an eight ball to thread onto the post on the pad. Then you can quick change to different size backing pads if your lucky enough to have multiple size sanders around. Just take the pad off the one your not using and thread on the cue ball then put it back when you need the sander.
Learning of new ideas is great isn't it?
