There is another way of dealing with them, tools that is or actually anything inanimate. After a quick look, IGNORE the item and let it know you don't care where it is. It will get lonely and turn up. It will actually move to an obvious place so you don't miss seeing it. It must move otherwise you would have seen it the first time...
