I suppose it depends on where the exhaust is: left, center, or right. :)

Seriously though, the straps attach to conventional "gutter clips" or the strange-shaped pieces that grab the car roof where the gutter used to be. you can buy these for a few dollars from auto parts stores, or from the makers of cartop luggage carriers. Sears would be one source.

I didn't draw the hardware for the straps because I'm not that good of an artist. Give me a couple more years practice to get better.

If you can't find such clips then open the car doors, pass the straps inside and connect them loosely. Closing the car doors will tighten them a bit. Allow for that.

Don't put the straps through open windows. You'll end up tying the doors shut.

Bow and stern lines do most of the work in holding the boat onto your car. This just serves as a cushion and protects the paint job on the car. If it is not tied on tightly, don't worry. It is not going anywhere.
