As my wife reminds me often, I'm not great at communicating at my best. After a ten/twelve hour workday and a glass or two of port... I fear that communication drops further ;o)

The MDF is for the workbench top. I do plan on varnishing the surface, but I'll want to wait 'til spring. Varnishing without opening the windows up will get me chased out of the house by the aforementioned wife. Opening the windows when it's cold... well, I don't particularly like my electric utility. Paying them more doesn't entertain me.

I don't plan on coating the inside of the kayak, either, but after reading my post, I can see how that might sound.

When I first started looking at kayak coverings, I was pretty well set on nylon and Corey's Goop. I liked how the Goop's supposed to penetrate the nylon. I presume that'll help reduce the inside of the covering from absorbing moisture and causing the nylon to swell.

In your first tests (Dave), you mentioned that the PL doesn't seem to penetrate through the weave to affect the other side of the fabric. I'm happy to hear that Tim was able to get the PL to stick to nylon, but I fear that having the PL coat only the outside of the weave will allow the nylon to sop up any water that finds its way into the interior of the kayak. Having it wrinkle isn't *that* bad, but if I'm using polyester, I won't have to worry about it. I like being able to iron the polyester tight, too, just like my model aircraft.
