: I've never been to Great Britain, so I can't say if this is true:
: I've been told the British drink their beer at a temperature
: which is just slightly below room temperature. When I asked why
: they would do that, I was told "They have Lucas
: refrigerators.
: If I ever need to do a business study I'd like to do one on Lucas's
: survivability. I can't understand how they can still be in
: business. What with all the bad word-of-mouth advertising that
: they have received over the decades, the loss of automotive and
: motorcycle companies they supplied, bad economic times, and all
: these jokes and insults. How'd they do it?

Hi Paul,
The beer. Traditionally, beer was made with a lot of different flavours, like wine, in particular, red wine. The flavours don't come out when the beer is cold. Coldness also covers up any lack of flavour. Though warm actually means not cold, think cellar temperatures, steady cool temps but never down to freezing.
If you think about it, beer pre-dates fridges by a few years, really cold beer was only possible in winter.
Lucas electrics. I've had Brit bikes and oddly, the actual Lucas components are pretty reliable, it was the wiring looms that seemed to be demonically possessed. I've had a loom do a melt-down but the various components were fine to use afterwards, I think the loom served as a circuit breaker. :) Just re-wired the loom using good wire. It was in the wire insulation that Lucas used to fail on.
