Strip: glass the deck and outside coming at once?

Before I glass the deck on my kayak, I've got to apply a fill coat outside the coming riser. My question is.....has anyone ever tried glassing the deck and the outside of the coming riser at once? Any issues with getting the glass to conform to hull and coming without wrinkling? or should I trin the glass around the cockpit when I seal the deck, and glass the coming seperately? I've included a photo below to help show where I'm at....
