Not necessarly a "standard" I know of. However 3/4" seems to work well and look nice. I used this for both of the measurements you are looking for. On my first boat I made the lip a lot thicker than necessary on my current project I started with 1/8" wide by 3/16" thick strips. Nick has a great video on this check his blog. He does it differently than his first book and the new way works much better. Joe
