: One other difference between PVA and epoxy, in my experience, is
: that epoxy does better on end grain than PVA does. It seems to
: me that endgrain PVA joints often starve themselves, because
: they require significant clamping pressure, and they have
: limited open time - you are pretty much obliged to clamp them
: while the glue is still soaking into the end grain. OTOH with
: epoxy, you can let the glue soak into the end grain until it
: stops doing so, add a bit more, and then clamp lightly. On still
: one more hand, as long as your joints hold together until
: everything is overlain by glass and epoxy, they should be good
: enough.
: Nonetheless, I would choose epoxy on end grain joints, especially
: any that may not be substantially reinforced with glass.

Though I use epoxy for end grain so havn't tried it, it might work to paint the end grain with PVA glue, let it set up hard then glue the glue to the glue. It's the best way to epoxy end grain too, precoat, let it cure then epoxy the cured epoxy to itself. Like precoating the boat before fiberglass. It does take time though. It's how I make scarfs for SOF's stringers, never had one fail.
