Sorry to read about your difficulties. One thing I should have added to my earlier post, it is important that the saw bearings are in good condition: I tried it first with a 30 year-old saw that had been heavily used and the results were awful, then I realized the bearings were worn out so there was lots of end-play. It goes without saying that the guide must be absolutely straight, and smooth so chips do not get stuck against it.
