: Yep ... I've followed the project for a while too.
: I wish there was more info on the process.
: One thing I'd like to know is how they drilled a pilot hole for the
: engine shaft through the "dead wood" ... which is 2
: meters thick ... and the hole was so straight that it came out
: dead center. Ref: page 3
: Another is how did they locate the deck in all 3 dimensions.
: It's easy enough to figure out a way to do this kinda thing on a
: something like a pocket boat in your garage ... but it's gotta
: be way tougher for something as large as this which is hand
: built and has all the inaccuracies that hand built stuff has.
: Also there are always aspects of boat building that morph into
: R&D projects as you try to build something, fail and then
: try something else until you get the result you want. I wonder
: how much of that exists in a project that large.

Boring the hole for the shaft is always a trick, requires a huge drill motor, usually use a huge Milwaukee drill and a giant drill bit and quite a bit of jigging to hold everything straight while it's being done, it's not done by hand by any means. You can barely pick up the drill motor and the drill bit let alone hold it straight, I've tried :)
