Given the length of time your kayak will be aboard a relatively stiff 4x4, I would construct molded supports to bolt onto your racks. There are numerous ways to do it and materials to use, but plywood blocks cut to shape and padded with minicell or other foam work well and are relatively easy to construct. In any case, having molded and padded supports will be easier on your boat than non-fitted supports.
