Polish guy 'Olek' is week to ten days off coast of Brazil after 88 days on Atlantic in his bid to cross from Africa.
Interesting kayak design, similar to the one by two Australians that crossed Tasman Sea, but this one has superstructure above the paddler that provides floatation and assists it to be self righting. It's 23 ft long and 39 inches at the beam... it's the 1200 1b load that would be the killer. His Polish paddling partner from a first attempt (woman) tried to cross recently in a home built stripper... She made the mistake of staying in Africa too long (two weeks) and got malaria. html.transatlanticblogspot.com and aleksanderdoba.pl Transatlantic Kayak Expedition. I'm inspired but I think I'll just run a few rivers next spring... wew, back to the couch for now.
