I think what Joe may have been hinting at is to research the value of it before you do anything to it that could reduce the value. If it turns out to be worth considerable money, a careful restoration will preserve the value and allow you to use it, or you could sell it to a collector and use the cash to buy a good "user" #2 and probably a few others. If it turns out not to be particularly valuable, I'd restore it to usable condition and keep it.
