: doubles, most though don't use them anywhere nearly as often as
: they'd use two singles. Before I'd spend the time building a
: fairly complex boat I'd spend some serious time paddling rental
: boats at minimum if not your own to make sure you're choosing
: what you really want.

We have spent a considerable amount of time in rentals and have used a friends tandem many times. We would both get more use from the tandem than the singles. It may not be the case for everyone but for us that's what we have decided to go with.
