Strip: Flush deck fittings

I have a question for those who have made flush deck fittings following the method of G. Maroske and Dan (CSFW) on his "Nereida". I did them on my last boat want to put on my current build. I think they look nice and are great when it’s time to re-varnish but I am wondering if they could be made lighter. I’m wondering about using the sleeves sold by places like Soller Composites instead of the usual chopped up ‘glass and cloth. Has anyone tried this? Any idea on whether the sleeve could bend that tightly without crinkling?
Thanks
Ric
