: In my area I can buy fairly reasonable WRC in the form of fence
: planks at my local hardware/lumber store. Length is limited to
: 6' or 8' but I don't mind scarfing. The thickness gives me the
: width of strips I need and it is slash cut which yields strips
: with vertical grain. I lose some to knots but I can use about
: 75% on average so it works out cheap compared to taking a long
: drive and paying higher prices for better stuff. That suits me
: as I am both lazy and cheap ...

: I don't bother with bead and cove, I prefer to bevel. I cut a slot
: to fit a strip in the edge of a piece of waste, this hold the
: strip while I plane the bevel. I plane the entire strip to the
: shallowest bevel first, then roll it out to the ends until I get
: the angle I need. This takes only a few minutes and gives me
: something to do while the glue on the previous layer is setting
: up. I also smooth the inside of the strips before gluing them
: and try to keep the inside edges aligned. This minimizes sanding
: on the inside: sanding the outside is easier!

I find it really interesting that with the mass mechandising the big box lumber yards do that there is such a regional range of lumber. Every place seems to have things that other parts of the country can't get. Weird.
