That's now my approach. I use a skilsaw with a thin kerf finish blade, zero clearance baseplate and extra long guide set to 1/64-1/32" thicker than I need for ripping. Then I run the strips through a table router. However, I only route one side and put the smooth side of the strips on the inside the hull, since that's the hardest to sand later.
Of course I haven't got to the sanding part yet ...
