Hi Builders,
For those who might be interested here is how I made my hatch cover hooks. I used 5.2 mm plywood and covered that with some carbon leftovers. I then cut out the stiff back hook and shaped it to fit the cover. I used the epoxy thickened with chopped glass and chopped carbon for a bond that is very strong. The tether loop is also glued to the cover but out of sight behind the hook. These hooks are killer strong and light weight. I use the carbon loops inside for the internal shock cord retention system.
The rims are 5.2 mm plywood. One cut just slightly smaller than the hole the next one is 5/8 smaller than the first. This will provide a stop and a seat for the gasket. The reason I used plywood is the deck is flat in the rear and peaked at the bow. The carbon or glass rims work great for curved decks like on my Outer Island but this is strip version of a skin on frame baidarka. The SOF as you can imagine has flat decks and so the plywood worked well in this case. I painted epoxy colored with graphite on the wood rims for a neat look.
The carbon loop idea came from John Caldeira or maybe it was Ross Leidy anyway everyone who contributes should be credited, Thanks all.
