Hi John,

I like the foam pillar back suport as well. I make mine about 2" to 2.5" clear of the back of the coaming. I then slope it or angle it towards the coaming and at the very top put about a 45 angle up to the bottom of the coaming. This way when I lay back I can feal the foam right in the small of my back when I am all the way back on the coaming. 4" wide works but you can go wider if that feels better to you. 4" is what the foam is available in and then it is easy to fit up under the rear deck and coaming. I have this picture of my Outer Island seat made from parts from Redfish Kayak.
