The second is one of those gum rubber cleaning sticks to unclog the sandpaper. They do a great job with any type of sandpaper, whether on a machine or hand-held.

BTW, converting an old table saw to a disk sander can breathe new life into a discarded tool. I have an ancient 9" Craftsman saw that's underpowered for most table saw work, but it makes a great sander.
